Tottenham dealt blow in Miralem Pjanic race

Barcelona look set to beat Tottenham to the signing of Roma's Miralem Pjanic, according to the Daily Express.

The 23-year-old Bosnian international had been linked with a move to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham earlier this summer, but Barcelona have now entered the race for the highly-rated midfielder.

Pjanic said earlier in the month that he wanted to stay at the Stadio Olimpico but it now looks as if he could be set to leave the Serie A giants.

"I don't want to leave. Everyone at the club knows that," said Pjanic.

"I've always wanted to stay here. I want to give everything to start the season well."

However, Pjanic did say in another interview that he would love to play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid during his career.

“I've always been a fan of Real Madrid, but it would be a pleasure to play for Barcelona.

“Madrid have been my favourite team since I was a child, but it would be difficult to refuse an offer from Barcelona," he told Oslobodjenje.

Pjanic would be new Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino's first signing at the Camp Nou if the proposed deal was to go through.

It would also serve as a major blow to Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas who looks set to lose star man Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.
