Carmelo Anthony won't commit to Knicks

Published 2 Comments

Carmelo Anthony has attempted to swerve questions about his long-term future with the New York Knicks, but his reluctance to make a definitive statement on the subject led to increased speculation he will opt out of his contract next year.

Anthony is a reported to be a target for the LA Lakers who have room in their cap space to secure both him and LeBron James, and it is widely expected the former will seek a bigger contract in 2014.

The Knicks, meanwhile, have been busy during the offseason so far with the acquisitions of  Andrea Bargnani and Metta World Peace, ensuring there will be plenty of excitement in New York when the new NBA season begins.

But, while Anthony has been impressed by the business of the Knicks bosses over the past few weeks, he claims it is 'too tough' to make a decision on his future with the franchise at the present time.

“We got [Metta World Peace], and I think [Andrea] Bargnani was really a steal for us. He’ll help us spread the floor. We got J.R. [Smith] back and we kept the core guys together," Anthony told reporters.

When asked if a successful season for the Knicks will determine if he will remain in New York, Anthony added: “I can't do that. It's too tough right now.

"It's a big year. A huge upcoming season for me, as a team and as an organization."
