Barcelona midfielder Xavi believes 21-year-old Sergi Roberto has all the components to be a future star at Barcelona.

Xavi admitted he isn't sure whether Thiago Alacantra's switch to Champions League winner's Bayern Munich is a mistake for Barcelona or not.

"Time will tell whether Thiago's transfer to Bayern is a mistake," the experienced midfielder said at a press conference.

"He has extraordinary talent, but he has decided to leave."

However, 33-year-old Xavi believes young Barcelona player Sergi Roberto can emulate the successes of Thiago, and potentially outshine the departed star.

Roberto has made just three appearances for Barcelona, due to spending the majority of his time with the Barcelona B side.

The 21-year-old has been involved in the Spain national team set-up from U17 upwards, playing in every age group up to U21 level.

The young Spanish star is yet to make an appearance for the Spain senior side as of yet, but will be looking to make a breakthrough next season.

Xavi is confident Roberto will step up to the plate and fill the void left by Thiago, and admits Barcelona have an abundance of future stars that will become top players for the Catalan club.

"We’ve lost one of our future stars, but there are others, like Sergi Roberto." Xavi said.

Xavi went on to express his pleasure at the appointment of Gerardo Martino, admitting Martino's enterprising, dynamic managerial style will bring success to the La Liga club.

"Martino is a serious, hard-working, humble person. He has a dynamic approach, with some tactical changes. We are as eager as ever and we’ll try to adapt to him as he will to us."
