Real Madrid's pursuit of Gareth Bale has entered a new phase, as their tabled bid of £85 million recently emerged from the shadows of the transfer window’s depths.

However, despite this incredible offer, Tottenham Hotspur’s chairman Daniel Levy is still unprepared to sell their star man.  Levy’s firm and unwavering stance has reportedly frustrated Bale whose desire to move to the Bernabéu has yet to be made to the public.

The allure of Champions League football and the history and calibre of Madrid must surely be calling the 24-year-old Welsh international.  Can Spurs stand in the way of such a move or equally turn down the astonishing world-record-shattering fee?

No one can deny Bale is a sensational talent, but is he or any other player worth £85 million?  Real Madrid, obviously think so and so does French international and Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane.

"Last season, Gareth was on the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi," Zidane told reporters. "The best players can have not so great games but change a game with a moment of brilliance.”

The Frenchman went on to say that “There is nothing more prestigious for a player to wear than the white of Real Madrid.”  I think most would agree that Bale’s departure from White Hart Lane is edging closer.

The bidding war for the the player's signature also seems to be wholly one sided, with Real Madrid the only club willing to stump the cash. So, the question isn't will Bale move, but surely when.

With Madrid having already splashed £61million on signings under Carlo Ancelotti – I am sure the madness of Madrid’s spending will ensure the capture of one of football’s most talented young players.
