One cannot differentiate Gonazalo Higuain and Karim Benzema’s contribution in scoring department of Real Madrid over past seasons. But now after the departure of Higuain to Napoli, more responsibilities await for Benzema.
Benzema had very satisfactory season last time as he managed 20 goals and 20 assists in 50 games for Real despite the fact that Jose Mourinho used to rotate Frenchman and Higuain during his time at Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have not spent on any star striker this summer which is clear indication that the new coach Carlo Ancelotti will rely on Benzema and young star Alvaro Morata for No.9 responsibilities.
Benzema needs to find the net regularly to ease the pressure on Cristiano Ronaldo whom real will expect to score every match, with the club having reinforced their midfield rather than forward department.
Benzema, 25, has a good record at Real scoring 87 goals and contributing 50 assists in 183 games, but more frequent contribution will be needed.
Los Blancos possess world class midfielders Mesut Ozil , Kaka, Luka Modric, Isco, Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira to provide the chances, so there will be little excuse if Benzema is profligate this term.
Madrid were defeated in the semi-finals of Champions League last season and they finished the campaign without any silverware. So the pressure is on Benzema to help ensure disaster for a second season in succession is averted.
