Arsenal will bid for Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen if they fail to sign Brazil starlet Bernard this summer, according to Sports Direct News.
The 21-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the most talented young players in Europe, would reportedly be available for around £16m.
The Gunners look set to miss out on Bernard, who currently plays his club football with the recently-crowned Copa Libertadores champions Atlético Mineiro, after Shakhtar Donetsk had a bid accepted for the highly-rated 20-year-old.
Porto are also ahead of Arsenal in the race for the diminutive winger.
However, Eriksen's signature would still represent a major coup for Arsene Wenger, who is coming under increasing pressure to make a marquee signing before the start of the new campaign.
Having missed out on the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain this summer, news of Eriksen's arrival would be welcomed with open arms by the club's supporters.
The Denmark international has been linked to most of the top Premier League clubs over the last 18 months - including Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool - but can Arsenal convince him to sign on at the Emirates Stadium?
