After much speculation and months of heavy advertising, BT Sport, the UK's newest sport's channels, will finally go live today.

The channels will be completely free for the first day for viewers with Freeview, BT TV or Sky.

Tonight's opening evening begins with a special live show from 6pm, that will feature almost all of the new channel's big names - including Jake Humphrey, Michael Owen, Clare Balding, David James and Matt Dawson amongst many others.

The programme, with which BT Sports will make their TV debut, will give viewers a taste of things to come, and will take place at BT's brand new multi-purpose studios.

BT Sport has been the subject of intense public anticipation, and their 'Great Sport Happens Here' strap-line has attracted the attention of many sports fans already signed up to different providers and channels.

John Petter, managing director of BT Retail Consumer, said in a press release sent to GiveMeSport: “It’s finally a reality that ‘Great sport happens here’. It’s just over a year since we secured our Barclays Premier League rights and only six months since we started to build our exciting new studio in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We have some tremendously talented presenters and experts who are passionate about sport.

“The customers are the ones that matter and now they will be able to see the programmes for themselves. We‘re convinced they’re going to like what they see, and we’re absolutely committed to making BT Sport fun, innovative and a firm favourite with the fans.”

BT Sport will broadcast 38 games over the forthcoming Premier League football season, as well as showing a number of high profile matches from other leagues around Europe.

It remains to be seen whether or not the company will make good on their lucrative promises, but with presenters and commentators that have represented their respective sports at the highest levels, they have captured the imagination of many potential viewers.

The company's new website www.btsport.com also goes live today, offering a wide range of free content and bonuses for customers.
