Liverpool are close to completing a deal to land FC Schalke 04 defender, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Greek international has been one of the consistent performers for the German club since joining them back in 2010 from Olympiacos, making 57 appearances in Bundesliga.
He has developed since and has already been capped 16 times for the Greece national team, including appearances during Euro 2012.
The Reds already signed a defender earlier this summer with Kolo Toure joining the Anfield outfit on a free transfer following his release from Manchester City.
The futures of Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger are in the balance however, with the former being linked with a move to Italy to join former Liverpool team-mate Pepe Reina at Napoli.
If Liverpool do manage to complete the Papadapolous deal, reports suggest that they will be considering the prospect of selling Skrtel, with the predicted fee close to £10 million.
Liverpool have already seen club legend Jamie Carragher retire since last season and they are on the lookout for a youthful replacement to fill the void, with Brendon Rodgers interested in Papadopoulos.
The fee set to be agreed with FC Schalke 04 is £13 million, according to the Daily Star.
The 21-year-old was previously linked with a move to Chelsea, but the London club were unwilling to meet the German club valuation of £19 million. Their interest has since cooled, coinciding with the arrival of Jose Mourinho.
Brendon Rodgers had his sights set on Papadopoulos last season, but was unable to complete any deal as the central defender sustained a knee injury which kept him out for a major part of the term.
He managed only ten appearances in the 2012-13 season, down from 29 in 2011.
Papadopoulos current contract with FC Schalke 04 doesn't expire until 2016, but sources believe that the club will accept the £13vmillion that is being offered in the coming days, making him the fifth signing for the Premier League side this summer in the process.
Liverpool appear ready to pay the fee and finalise the deal, providing the player proves his fitness. Schalke have released a statement saying that Kyriakos Papadopoulos has rejoined training and is on course for full fitness following a knee operation.
