QPR midfielder Joey Barton has ruled out a move to Everton and has admitted he wants to make a return to Marseille before the transfer window closes.

The 30-year-old used his Twitter account to express his desire for a move back to France, after he enjoyed a season-long loan at the club last season.

Barton also dismissed rumours of a possible transfer to Everton, with recent reports suggesting he may join the club he supported as a youngster.

"It's well known who I support. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that out," Barton said on Twitter.

"Good football agents will always be looking to move players, that's how they make money.

"Recent rumours are slightly wide of the mark, everyone knows where I would like to end up, in France, playing in the Champions League for Olympique Marseille, nothing has changed my end.

"If not, I am contracted to QPR and will give my all to help them regain their Premier League status.

"If something happens and both clubs decide differently, than I will assess my options," explained the midfielder.

Barton is back in training with QPR, as they continue their preparations for the new Championship season which kicks off this weekend.

And despite originally claiming he would not be dropping down to the second tier of English football, Barton seems to have changed his stance in recent weeks - with a move away from Loftus Road hinging on financial decisions.

Barton still has two years left on current contract worth around £70,000 a week, and although Marseille are keen to sign him, they remain reluctant to pay a fee while stating they will only offer him a £30,000 a week deal.

QPR's first game of the season sees them take on Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, as they aim to bounce back to Premier League at the first time of asking.
