Chelsea's vice-captain Frank Lampard today paid tribute to his boss - Jose Mourinho. The England international has revealed to the media just how influential the 'Special One' has been on his remarkable career.
"He told me I was the best player in the world, but if you want to be recognised you need to win titles and medals," Lampard told The Sun.
"Whether he meant it or not I'm not sure, but he certainly knew how to get the best out of me, as I thought that I needed to prove this bloke right. So for him to come back, for me personally, is brilliant."
Clearly the English international has nothing but admiration for the man who turned him into the most prolific and consistent goal scoring midfielder of the era and he obviously believes Mourinho can have a similar impact on the next generation of potential superstars the club is in the process of bringing through.
Marco Van Ginkel has drawn many comparisons with Lamps due to his impeccably timed runs into the box, long distance finishes, all backed up with a solid ability in the defensive areas of the game.
"The good thing about signing young players is that they are for the future," Lampard added.
"And the manager's mentality will only help the young players. I believe there are exciting times coming ."
His beliefs are echoed around the Chelsea fan base with it generally being accepted the club is at its strongest in three or four years. Chelsea have some of the most exciting youth players in the world and despite drawing a lot of criticism over the years about the clubs policy to said players, Mourinho has pledged to utilise the great options available to him.
Bertrand Traore is the latest dazzling prospect to be dangled in front of the fans eyes and despite only being 17 Mourinho has expressed his disapointment at not being able to utilize the youngster in his first team plans for next season as the player currently can't get a work permit.
