Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has urged Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas to join him at Old Trafford.
The Spanish midfielder has been the subject of interest from the Red Devils, and they have already had bids of £25m and £30m for the former Arsenal player rejected.
BBC Sport now reports that United will consider increasing their offer in an attempt to make the 26-year-old the club's record signing - beating the figure spent to bring Dimitar Berbatov to the club.
His fellow Spaniard de Gea thinks signing Fabregas would greatly improve their chances of being successful in their first season under new manager David Moyes.
He told Marca: “He will have to make the decision as to whether he wants to stay or join us."
“It would be a very good signing and he would help us to improve greatly.”
The former Atletico Madrid keeper went on to say that he tried to convince his Spain under-21 team-mate Thiago Alcantara also make the switch from Barcelona to United, but he opted to join Bayern Munich instead for over £21m.
“Yes, I tried to convince him but I wasn’t able to. He would have been a great signing,” De Gea added.
“He opted for Bayern, a very good club, and I am sure that he will do very well there.”
