Arsenal are reported to be readying a £25million bid for Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan, according to Sports Direct News.
The Emirates Stadium side are set to table an offer for the 22-year-old, who last term played a key role in helping his side to the Champions League final.
The German international midfielder is a tough tackler but is more renowned for his passing technique and is a player Arsene Wenger may feel can offer his Gunners side a new dimension in the centre of the park.
This source rates the former Nuremberg man at around £25million, which is perhaps a fair price for a player of Gundogan’s ability and potential.
For all Borussia Dortmund’s recent successes, Jurgen Klopp’s side winning two of the last three Bundesliga titles, the Westfalenstadion side seem to struggle to keep hold of their top talents.
Dortmund have somewhat of a track record for making talented players and then selling then as was the case for Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa, Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze and Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin and as such one cannot rule out a successful move for Gundogan whose current contract comes to an end in the summer of 2015.
The midfielder of Turkish descent has made himself a mainstay in the centre of the park since arriving from Nuremburg back in 2011 for £4million after two impressive seasons with the Bundesliga outfit, which had seen him recognised internationally, as he was selected for Germany's under-21 side.
Whilst Arsenal have a number of creatively minded central midfielders with the likes of Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky to call upon, Gundogan is of a different type of player and can perhaps provide more balance to the north London club’s squad.
Since he turned up at the Westfalenstadion, Gundogan has gone from strength to strength, making him an automatic starter alongside Sven Bender for Jurgen Klopp's side, thanks to his natural ability on the ball, and superb passing ability, which has seen him open up many a Bundesliga defence. Gundogan has made 81 appearances in two seasons at Borussia Dortmund and is a regular in Joachim Low’s German national team set-up.
His form hasn't gone unnoticed in England, with Manchester United linked with a £25million move for the playmaker should they fail in their pursuit of Luka Modric, then it seems that Dortmund’s midfield maestro may be next on the Reds' wishlist.
