FC Basel have served up an early contender for goal of the 2013/14 season, after scoring a simply sublime team goal in Tuesday's Champions League third qualifying round first leg clash against Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

The 1-0 victory not only gives the Swiss side a crucial advantage heading into the return fixture, but the manner of the goal that currently separates the two teams, is worthy of winning any match.

With possession of a throw-in on the halfway-line, Basel embarked on a swift counter-attack with four neat one-touch passes followed by a brilliant first-time finish from Valentin Stocker.

The fluid move and clever link-up play between the Basel forwards ripped the Maccabi defence apart, to absolutely devastating effect.

Even more frustratingly for the visitors, is the fact that the 38th minute goal came against the run of play. But, the Israeli outfit will still hold hopes of turning the tie around, with the help of home advantage next week.
