The Football League season will begin tonight as Sheffield United face Notts County in SkyBet League 1.
The game will mark 125 years since William McGregor founded the Football League. Sheffield United and Notts County were both involved in the foundation of the league, which contained just 12 clubs at the time.
A lot has changed since then: rules, sponsorship and stadia as well as the introduction of promotion, relegation and play-offs.
History aside, it will be important for both teams to get off the mark. Sheffield United will be hoping to recover from a play-off defeat to Yeovil with a home win.
Notts County will just be happy with a point against a side that are strongly fancied for promotion. Both teams have made a number of signings in the summer that are likely to feature in this game. Both managers will have fully fit squads to choose from after, what has seemed like, a long summer break.
Blades manager David Weir told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's a fantastic occasion and a great, historical fixture to start the season with."
When the sides last met at Bramall Lane last season the game ended 1-1, and don’t be surprised to see a tight encounter tonight.
For neutrals the result seems irrelevant, it just feels great for football to be back again!
