Gareth Bale: Should Tottenham reject £85m?
Should Tottenham really reject a world record bid for Gareth Bale?
The rumours of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid have been taking up most of the back pages this summer. Carlo Ancelotti is reported to have offered Tottenham £85 million for the winger, however Spurs are demanding an excess of £100 million.
Is Bale really worth that much, and are Tottenham wise to reject such a large sum for the player?
Let's not forget that just two seasons ago, Bale was hardly worth a fraction of that money. Although he is a talented young player, quick and agile on the ball with a rocket for a shot, he didn't really start impressing until his hat-trick against Inter in the Champions League.
Spurs are making a huge error as they are not taking all the factors into consideration. Bale is currently worth just over £60 million, and if Spurs hold on to the wantaway hitman, will this affect his performance on the pitch, and hence his price-tag? If they are not careful with how they handle Bale, he could end up leaving Spurs next season for under £30 million, especially if his form drops, or if he sustains an injury.
It is extremely likely that this will be their last opportunity to cash in on Bale and bring in some other needed reinforcements. The sale of Bale may even prompt Villas-Boas to splash out £50 million on Luis Suarez, who might be able to fill in Bale's shoes.
Or maybe the Portuguese can explore some other options, such as the likes of Angel Di Maria, Marco Reus, or maybe even Nicolas Gaitan?
