Liverpool chief confident Suarez will stay
The Reds' managing director, Ian Ayre, believes Luis Suarez will not be leaving Anfield this summer
Ian Ayre has told Sky Sports he expects Suarez to stay at Anfield this summer.
Since moving to Liverpool in January 2011, Suarez has scored 38 goals in 77 appearances and become a favourite amongst many fans.
He has however been at the forefront of a lot of bad press recently, arguably for valid reasons since his eight game ban for racial abuse on Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic which will see him continue a ten match ban early on this coming season.
In May this year, Suarez declared his want to leave Liverpool, blaming the media intrusion as the main factor. He has since been linked with a move to a number of clubs with Arsenal having had two bids rejected.
Ayre is confident the Uruguayan striker will remain with the Reds: "We've got Luis Suarez in our squad, he'll have trained today and he's working hard.
"Despite what people think we've not had an intention of selling Luis, we've never said we want to sell Luis.
"He continues to work hard and train hard for Liverpool. That will continue and I'll expect him to be here at the start of the season."
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has told BBC Sport that Suarez should stay at Liverpool: "I'd welcome him at Arsenal with open arms but if I was Suarez, when you look at everything, it does seem strange he would want to go to Arsenal. I would give Liverpool another season."
With Arsenal not yet making a third bid, it is time for Suarez to show some respect to the football club which has been so loyal to him.
