Over the past week we have seen Arsenal have a bid for Luis Suarez rejected by Liverpool.
This begs the question; should Arsene Wenger look to spend the £40m elsewhere?
Below is a list of affordable strikers, all of whom would certainly help Arsenal challenge for silverware next season.
Jackson Martinez - FC Porto (2012/13 - 34 goals)
The 26-year-old Colombian striker is an out-and-out natural goalscorer and has proved this in Portugal with some sensational performances for his club, scoring an impressive 34 goals in 39 matches in his debut season. Arsenal could capture his signature for around £21 million, leaving them with almost another £20 million to strengthen the other areas of their team. A bargain price in today's market for a player with such goal scoring ability.
Burak Yilmaz - Galatasaray (2012/13 - 32 goals)
The Turkish international played for no less than six clubs before joining Galatasaray at the end of the 2011/12 season. Yilmaz scored 32 goals for his club last season including eight in the Champions League. His signature could cost Arsenal somewhere in the region of £18 million. His performances in the Champions League proved he has the ability to score against some of the best teams in Europe, and he could take this European experience to the Premier League next season.
Stefan Kiessling - Bayer Leverkusen (2012/13 - 27 goals)
The Bayer Leverkusen striker finished last season as the top goalscorer in Germany, one ahead of the deadly Lewandowski. The 29-year-old has spent the last nine seasons at Leverkusen, scoring on average 14 or 15 goals per season in Germany, this should be seen as a very consistent career. Kiessling would be available for around £18m from the German club if Arsene Wenger became interested.
Pablo Osvaldo - AS Roma (2012/13 - 17 goals)
The Argentinian forward featured 31 times for Roma over the duration of last season, netting a total of 17 goals for his club, including 16 in the Serie A. The 27-year-old's performances contributed to Roma's sixth place finish last season. The Argentine could be available for around £16.5m.
Michu - Swansea City (2012/13 - 17 goals)
Swansea City Spanish versatile forward 'Michu' lit up the Premier League last season with some great finishes and brilliant performances guiding Swansea to a ninth place finish. A very good achievement for the team from Wales. Miguel Michu finished the season with 18 Premier League goals, including an additional four in the domestic cups. The Spaniard could be available for a transfer fee of around £15m.
From the above choices, who do you think Arsenal should sign to complement the abilities of Oliver Giroud and Lukas Podolski?
