Arsenal are preparing to launch another attempt to sign Ashley Williams as their defensive crisis deepens, reports The Daily Mirror.
Arsene Wenger is facing six weeks without his captain Thomas Vermaelen and, after loaning out Johan Djourou and releasing Sebastien Squillaci, has only three recognised centre-backs in the squad.
The Frenchman ended his pursuit of Williams ealrier in the summer after Swansea set a £10million asking price, which Wenger characteristically deemed too high.
It is now believed that Michael Laudrup is prepared to accept the slightly lower price of £8.5million.
The Mirror is reporting that Wenger sent scouts to watch Williams in Swansea's 4-0 win over Malmo.
Arsenal are also struggling at left-back after Nacho Monreal suffered a back injury. However, the Spaniard is believed to be close to a return after a series of injections and may begin full training on Monday. He is likely to miss the Emirates Cup this weekend though.
With Wenger hoping Williams will be coming in, he is also looking to get Gervinho out.
The Ivory Coast winger is a target for Italian side AS Roma and the clubs are believed to be close to agreeing a deal.
Wenger is reluctant to sell but is of the view that there is no way back for Gervinho after a series of poor performances shattered his confidence and reputation.
