20 year-old Arsenal midfielder Chuks Aneke has returned on loan to Crewe Alexandra.

Aneke spent several months of the 2012-13 season at Gresty Road, reaching the Johnstone's Paint Final with the Railwaymen. Aneke's loan period was impressive as he scored eight goals in 38 games last term.

The former England youth international will help bolster Steve Davis' midfield following the recent departure of captain Luke Murphy to Leeds United. Aneke's arrival follows the signature of another midfielder, Anthony Grant.

Aneke had been training with the senior Arsenal squad over the summer, travelling to Asia in the Gunners' pre-season tour. Arsene Wenger has since decided to allow him another loan so that he can gain more first-team experience.

The Arsenal prospect will re-join the Alex with the same number as last season, number 26. The Alex are now awaiting official clearance from the Football League to field the midfielder in Saturday's opener against Rotherham.

The League One outfit have secured many of their transfer targets this summer, the Alex seemingly now have only Bradden Inman to recruit to further amplify their squad for a potential promotion push in the upcoming season.

In other news, Steve Davis recently told the club's official website who will take the captaincy reigns this season. He announced Abdul Osman will be the new Crewe skipper.

Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “Abdul is a player the lads really respect. He has the respect of the players and the staff and he is a great lad to have around the place. He has a strong personality and will grow into the role as well.

“It may well help with his discipline as well. He picks up some silly bookings at times and the extra responsibility will help him with that.

“I pulled the squad together and introduced Abdul as the new captain. They applauded that and congratulated him. That tells you, you have made the right decision. The lads had written skipper on his water bottle so he had an idea.”

Osman has already previously deputised in Luke Murphy's absence both last season and in pre-season and will lead his side out as the official captain for the first time against Rotherham United on 3 August.
