Arsenal can become title contenders
Although Arsenal have been suffering through an eight year trophy drought, a few key signings could turn them into title contenders.
Despite being in the top four in every single season since Arsene Wenger first took charge, the eight year trophy drought has been tough on all Arsenal fans. However, if Arsenal spend wisely in this transfer market, fans might finally have a reason to enjoy the forthcoming season.
The Gunners £40,000,001 bid for Luis Suarez has certainly excited some Arsenal fans, despite Liverpool's prompt rejection. If Wenger continues his pursuit of Suarez, he might just be able to prise the Uruguayan away from Liverpool, and he could fill in the large gap left by Robin van Persie's move to Manchester United in 2012. Suarez is just what the Gunners need, as they lack a prolific centre forward who can be counted on to produce something extraordinary just when it is needed most.
A decent centreback is also a must for Wenger, as he cannot continue to rely on the mediocre performances of Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertersacker and Thomas Vermaelen. Ashley Williams seems to be a good fit, and could join them for a fee of around £10 million. Or perhaps, if Wenger insists on young talent, Real Madrid's Raphael Varane.
The final piece of the jigsaw is a decent holding midfielder. Chiek Tiote appears to be a good fit, however the Gunners seem more interested in Maroune Fellaini, who could end up following in the footsteps of former teammate Mikel Arteta.
If Wenger does manage to fill in the gaps in his squad, he can surely prove to be a force to be reckoned with, and finally challenge for, or win, the title.
