Clint Dempsey is on the verge of returning to America as Tottenham Hotspur have struck a deal with Seattle Sounders to sell the 30-year-old midfielder.
The deal is believed to be in the region of £6million - the amount Tottenham paid to Fulham last season.
Dempsey was expected to feature heavily this season after Tottenham worked so hard to snatch him away from Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
His performances also earned merit last season particularly away at Old Trafford where he scored what proved to be a crucial goal in providing a 3-2 win for Tottenham.
It is expected the imminent arrival of £26million man Roberto Soldado from Valencia has pushed Dempsey down the pecking order and out of manager Andre Villas Boas' plans.
Dempsey is the second shock departure - in less than a week - from White Hart Lane as Steven Caulker moved to Cardiff for £8million last Wednesday.
