In recent weeks, Arsenal have been linked with many big-name strikers including: Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic and Luis Suarez.
This shows that the Gunners are probably in need of a top-class striker. Since the focus has been mainly on forwards, this is my take on who Arsenal actually need, you don't have to agree.
There are multiple positions in which Arsenal could use some reinforcements. Below are some of those that I thought of:
There are only three tested and experienced centre-backs in the squad.
With only Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Thomas Vermaelen as the senior central defenders in the squad, Arsene Wenger should consider some new signings, especially with Vermaelan now out injured.
Possible additions: Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Ashley Williams.
Ever since Alexandre Song's departure, Arsenal has been greatly lacking his physical midfield presence.
In the recent 2012/13 season, Mikel Arteta played in that holding role. However, the Spaniard is more of a creative midfielder and cannot boss the middle of the park as well as a tough-tackling, no-nonsense midfield general could.
Furthermore, Emmanuel Frimpong isn' t exactly ready to make that step up to the first-team, and may need a few more years on loan spells before he is ready to be Arsenal's main man in front of the back four.
Possible additions: Marouane Fellaini and Lars Bender.
It is true, Arsenal do need another striker. As of now, Arsenal only have one out-and-out forward in the first team - Olivier Giroud.
This is obviously not enough. Although Giroud is a good striker, he would probably be better playing with another striker or as a backup. He is good, but he is just not of that top-calibre which Arsenal needs as a top club.
Other clubs like Manchester United and Manchester City have many world-class strikers, and after the loss of Robin van Persie, Arsenal are behind them in that aspect.
Possible additions: Luis Suarez, Stefan Kiessling and Wayne Rooney
These are the three most pressing positions in which Arsenal need new additions to strengthen the squad so they have a chance to challenge for the title next season.
