While Real Madrid are ready to meet any valuation put on Gareth Bale's head, Arsenal are yet to match Liverpool's for Luis Suarez.
Arsene Wenger has been looking for a world-class striker for more than six months. Indeed, they had already missed out on David Villa and Gonzalo Higuain in that time.
Since the beginning of this summer transfer window, they have failed to complete moves for Stevan Jovetic and the aforementioned Higuain. Now, they are struggling to lure Luis Suarez to the Emirates. Moreover, Arsenal had a second bid worth £40m rejected by Liverpool.
Although Arsenal had reportedly agreed personal terms with Gonzalo Higuain, they never agreed a fee with Real Madrid on the transfer. Furthermore, Arsenal were dealt a major blow as Liverpool are believed to not be willing to sell Suarez for below £55m.
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis had promised that the club would financially compete with everyone on the market and that is why Arsenal offered a sum for Suarez that would almost treble their current fee.
Luis Suarez has been urged to stay by both his manager and team mates but the Gunners are offering him something Liverpool cannot, Champions League football. Needless to say that the prospect of Champions League football will not leave much choice to Suarez. Arsenal are not yet qualified as they have to go through the play offs round.
