Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld could be on his way to Goodison Park this summer, as Roberto Martinez continues to make his mark at Everton.
The Belgium international's father has spoken about the alleged interest from the Premier League club, and commented on what the player's options are during this close-season.
Alderweireld is entering the final year of his current contract, potentially making the Amsterdam club more inclined to sell. Prior interest from both Bayern Leverkusen and Norwich have failed to result in a move.
However, Vic Alderweireld is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "We have heard from various sources that Everton are interested in Toby. Officially, there has not been any contact yet, but any English team of a certain stature would certainly be interesting for Toby."
The possibility of linking up with fellow Belgium teammates Marouane Fellaini and Kevin Mirallas could also be contributing factors in any future deal.
"He has two possibilities at the moment. He could sign a new contract with Ajax, or he could move to a bigger team in a bigger league," added Alderwiereld senior.
Under the guidance of Martinez, the Toffees will pursue European football in the next few seasons. That is a regularly guaranteed prospect with Ajax, but a move to Merseyside would offer the defender the chance to play in one of the world's most competitive domestic divisions - the Premier League.
