Many people are already stating that Tottenham Hotspur will not challenge for Champions League qualification once Gareth Bale leaves White Hart Lane this summer.
Here, Kymond Dimaandal takes a look at the pros and cons for Spurs and Andre Villas-Boas if the Welsh wing wizard joins Real Madrid.
1) More Available Funds
With many reports stating that Real Madrid are willing to break Cristiano Ronaldo's record transfer fee in order to bring Bale to the Spanish capital, it would be foolish to turn down such an offer, as the money could bring two or three world-class players and help in improving club facilities.
2) No longer a 'one man' team
Last season, Bale saved the north London side a countless number of times, which led to an over-reliance on the Welshman, which was apparent with disappointing results, with the 4-1 loss against Inter Milan a prime example.
If Bale leaves, Tottenham can be a more cohesive team.
1) Loss of a genuine world-class player
Football and business wise, Tottenham will possibly lose significant publicity for the club and the magic of the Welshman will surely be missed. And, it is likely that the club will struggle for Champions League qualification after his departure.
2) A hole in the squad
Andre Villas-Boas made a gamble by placing Bale in a free-attacking role, which paid off enormously. But if he does leave this summer, it would be interesting to see how the squad will cope, will they change tactics? Or will somebody replace Bale in his position?
Vilas-Boas will have to find a way to play without his top player.
3) More difficulty in signing new top players
One of the reasons as to why Brazilian midfielder Paulinho chose the north London club was because he was assured that Bale would stay at the club, after all, who wants to miss out on the chance to play with one of the world's best players?
If Bale departs from the club, it might see a lower interest from top and world-class players to join the club.
So those are the main pros and cons for Tottenham if Bale leaves the club. Though the cons outweigh the pros, it can't be denied that Spurs might have a better future without the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year, given the money that Real Madrid are offering would go a long way to reinvestment in the current squad.
