Wayne Rooney's Manchester United future continues to hang in the balance after the Premier League champions rejected an improved £30m Chelsea bid.
The 27-year-old is believed to want away from Old Trafford, after dropping down the United pecking order since the arrival of goal sensation Robin Van Persie.
Despite the speculation surrounding Rooney’s departure, newly appointed manager David Moyes has been adamant in ruling out a move away for the England international.
Following Chelsea's improved offer for the striker, United were quick to issue a statement, reiterating their stance on Rooney's future.
"A bid was received yesterday and immediately rejected. Our position remains that he is not for sale," it read.
Jose Mourinho has already had a £20m offer turned down by the Premier League champions, as he looks to land his sole transfer target.
Rooney, who is yet to make an appearance for United during pre-season, was expected to meet the squad in Sweden on Monday after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained earlier last month. However, he has picked up a shoulder injury and won’t travel, the club claims.
Moyes has faced a troubled start as the new United manager, with disappointing performances on the road and failure to resolve the Rooney saga. Now, it looks like the Scot has wasted three weeks in an attempt to land former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
