Former WWE and current TNA star Kurt Angle has entered a rehabilitation centre after being arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Angle was arrested late Thursday night in Texas after taping two episodes of TNA’s Impact Wrestling TV show, in what was his fourth alcohol related arrest in the last six years.
On Thursday night, Texas police received a phone call about a man driving recklessly. When the police caught the man a strong odour of alcohol was detected and so Angle was arrested and taken to the local police station.
Angle’s first alcohol related arrest came in 2007 when he was arrested in Pennsylvania.
He was then arrested twice in 2011 for alcohol related incidents. Angle never served any jail time for these incidents and is unlikely to this time, as he has now entered a rehabilitation centre to deal with his alcohol abuse.
“In light of recent events, I will be immediately entering a rehabilitation centre,” Angle wrote on Twitter yesterday. “I realise that this is a pivotal time in my life and I ask for your understanding as well as your prayers and continued support.”
TNA president Dixie Carter took to twitter to respond to the latest twist in the Kurt Angle saga. Carter wrote: “The TNA family is very supportive of the steps Kurt Angle is taking in his recovery. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”
Angle will be written out of the TNA story-lines for the foreseeable future but TNA hope that he will return in time to be inducted into the TNA hall of fame in October.
