It is only a couple of weeks until the Premier League returns and it promises to be one of the most interesting to date as we head into the opening weekend.

GMS Academy contributor Andy Preston has picked out five young players he thinks will light up the coming season and the reasons why.

5) Ryo Miyaichi – Arsenal

This young Japanese winger will be looking to terrorise defences with his silky skills and his lightning pace.

The 19-year-old had a short loan spell with Wigan last season, and impressed prior to his injury.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has already made a bold statement, saying Miyaichi will be staying at Emirates Stadium this season, which implies the winger will be given a chance to shine this season.

4) Yaya Sanogo – Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is looking to bring big-name signings to the Emirates this summer though his latest signing to date is 20-year-old Yaya Sanogo.

The Frenchman, standing at six foot three inches could be a handful for defences with his large, physical structure.

Due to the likely departures of strikers Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner, the pressure is on Wenger to make signings – however, Yaya Sanogo is certainly one to watch for the future.

3) Luke Shaw – Southampton

London born 18-year-old Luke Shaw played 25 league games for Southampton last year, and impressed so much that he was heavily linked to Chelsea and many reports rumoured an England call-up.

However, he cemented his Saints future by agreeing a new five-year deal in July and, if he performs as well as he did last season this year, then Roy Hodgson will have to make a tough decision on his left-back selection for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

2) Raheem Sterling – Liverpool

The 18-year-old winger has shown great potential to date for Liverpool, linking up well with teammates Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard last season.

Brendan Rodgers dropped the young star after claiming fatigue had started to affect the youngster’s game but now Sterling could play a vital part in Liverpool's upcoming season, especially if Suarez leave the Merseyside club.

However, will he be able to deal with the pressure of a big role at such a big club? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, his recent form has been extremely promising.

1) Wilfried Zaha – Manchester United

The former Crystal Palace winger attracted attention from a host of Premier League clubs after a series of scintillating displays for Crystal Palace in the Championship.

Manchester United beat rivals in the race to sign the highly rated 20-year-old and it is possible that he will feature prominently in Premier League games next season at Old Trafford under David Moyes.

Zaha took the Championship by storm with Palace, but will he be able to do it in the top tier of English football?

Other Players to watch out for: Jordan Ibe (Liverpool, Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal), Lucas Piazon (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Cardiff City), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton),
