Roberto Martinez has warned Everton fans to be patient with Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu, as he hopes the club's new loan signing will not have too much expectation on his shoulders.
The 19-year-old earned high praise for his performances with Barcelona B, before making the switch to Goodison Park this summer on a one-year deal.
But despite his undoubted potential, the Everton manager has called for the fans to be patient with the youngster and not too expect too much from him early on.
"We need to be patient as he's a young man, but in the same manner I think we can enjoy his quality," he told evertontv.
"He's decided to come to Everton and we need to look after him well.
"Clearly he's got the talent to help the team and we're really excited about Gerard's progress," added Martinez.
Martinez is preparing for his first season in charge of the club after spending nearly four years at Wigan.
The Spaniard left the Latics following their relegation from the Premier League last season, a campaign in which he saw his side defy the odds to win the FA Cup.
But the 40-year-old will have tough job on his hands as he aims to continue the success of previous Everton boss David Moyes, who takes over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
Everton face a trip to Norwich on the opening day of the season as the Premier League gets underway on August 17.
