Felipe Massa needs to get in gear

Felipe Massa has accepted the fact Ferrari may axe him at the end of the current Formula 1 season unless he raises his game.

The Brazilian began 2013 by out-qualifying Fernando Alonso in Australia and Malaysia, but his form has dropped down a gear amid a flurry of accidents and mistakes in recent races.

"The results will decide whether I stay here or move teams, the possibility to stay is there, but the most important thing is the results," he said.

The fall in performances has led to increased scrutiny of his place within the team.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo told Italian media Corriere della Sera: “Felipe is a quick driver and a great guy.

“But in the past days, we were very clear with him - he and us need results and points.”

Suggesting Massa is expected to deliver more consistent points in the second half of the season.

Massa is currently the second longest-serving driver in the team's history but admits his future is somewhat uncertain.

"We just need to finish the races in the normal way and get consistency. In doing that the results will be there," added Massa.

The Ferrari driver is currently seventh in the Drivers Championship with the team in third place in the Constructors' Championship.
