It has been revealed that Clint Dempsey will be earning a higher MLS wage than David Beckham did when he played for LA Galaxy.
The American's move to the Seattle Sounders was completed this week, in what was seen as a major boost to the US league.
It says something about how far it has grown, that they were able to lure a Premier League player in his prime across the Atlantic.
While on the west coast, Dempsey is expected to earn a basic salary of £5.2 million a year, whereas Becks was initially receiving £3.5 million.
Obviously the former England captain earned a lot of money from sponsors and for advertising too, but in terms of actually playing football, the Texan will be paid more.
The forward spent six years in London, playing for both Fulham and Tottenham in that time. However, he only had one season with Spurs before his recent transfer back to the USA, where he has previously played for New England Revolution.
Another clause of his new contract means that he will be available for loan during the MLS close-season, potentially providing the opportunity to return to the Premier League for a couple of months this winter.
