Liverpool have reportedly agreed terms with Valencia over a deal to take defender Aly Cissokho to Anfield.

According to the Daily Star, Brendan Rodgers is keen to provide more competition to current number one left-back Jose Enrique.

Cissokho has been linked with a Premier League move before now and Liverpool have beaten off interest from rivals Sunderland to seal the one-year loan deal, according to this report.

Rodgers could be looking to reinforce his defence following after it was reported that Martin Skrtel was nearing a move to Napoli to play under former Reds boss Rafael Benitez.

Cissokho was a promising youngster coming through the ranks at FC Guengnon, before leaving for Portugal and Vitoria Setubal.

Porto snapped him up before selling him on to Lyon for a vast profit just a few months later, though he failed to repeat the form he showed early in his career and was shipped off to Valencia.

A move to Liverpool would provide another fresh start for the 25-year-old as he looks to realise his potential.

Liverpool have already made defensive recruitments this summer, signing former Arsenal and Manchester City man Kolo Toure to replace the retired Jamie Carragher.
