Tottenham look set to miss out on one of their top defensive targets, as a move for Romaninan international Vlad Chiriches appears to be all but over.
As reported by talkSPORT, the player's agent has revealed that Chiriches would prefer a switch to Serie A in Italy ahead of a move to the Premier League, putting an end to speculation suggesting Andre Villas-Boas' side were set to land the 23-year-old stopper.
Spurs had appeared to be close to luring Chiriches to White Hart Lane before Steaua Bucuresti's eccentric president pulled the plug at the last minute.
Tottenham are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements having sold Steven Caulker to Cardiff City and lost fan favourite Jan Vertonghen to injury.
The north London outfit will continue to monitor Chiriches' situation closely, though a deal is extremely unlikely, with AC Milan reportedly interested in the £7 million-rated defender.
Speaking to Tuttosport, Becali said: "The player wants to go to a big club and Italy attracts him."
