Arsenal look set to lose Ivorian international Gervinho to Roma.
This has got me thinking that Arsenal don’t really have many options on the wings. Below, I have listed Arsenal’s players that can or can’t do a job out wide.
Theo Walcott: This was probably the most obvious seeing as he is one of the best wingers in the Premier League. His pace and acceleration has made him known globally as one of the fastest players in the world.
His finishing has come up to scratch and his crosses are also improving. Yet, Wenger still plays him as a striker. He was Arsenal’s top scorer last season.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: Chamberlain did not get much first team action for Arsenal last season. This could be because of the competition or the fact that he is still very young.
Nevertheless he performed remarkably for England and if he can transfer it into his football for Arsenal, we could see him as a regular next season.
Although there has been talk over whether he would play better in a centre attacking midfield role.
Lukas Podolski: Podolski is a striker. It is as simple as that. That is where he naturally plays. He has a great eye for goal, is a terrific finisher and has incredible shot power.
He was played on the left wing a lot for Arsenal but his great goal scoring performances in Arsenal’s pre-season so far might convince Wenger to let him play through the middle.
Santi Carzola can also play left midfield.
Arsenal have been linked with a CB (Williams), ST (Suarez), CM (Fabregas), and CAM (Bernard). But are these really the only positions they need to be focusing on?
Please leave comments below and say which wingers Arsenal would buy that would suit their team.
