Portugal international Raul Meireles scored one of the best goals of his career during Tuesday night's Champions League qualifier against Salzburg - a stunning 20-yard volley for Fenerbahce.

The 30-year-old, who scored some cracking efforts during his short spells at Liverpool and Chelsea, brought the scores level with a thunderous effort from the edge of the box.

Meireles set himself before wrapping his foot around the ball, which cannoned off the underside of the bar before landing into the bottom corner.

Not only was it a beautiful goal, it was an important goal too. Fenerbahce had fallen 1-0 behind after four minutes, but Meireles' memorable strike helped the Turkish giants on their way to a 3-1 victory, which secured the club's place in the play-off round.
