Queens Park Rangers new recruits Charlie Austin and Danny Simpson both found the net as QPR comfortably beat Exeter 2-0 in the 1st round of the Capital One Cup last night.

It took just three minutes for the London side to find the net. Jermaine Jenas’ shot was deflected in off of Charlie Austin giving the Hoops a 1-0 lead.

They looked in control from then on, although Exeter were not completely out of the tie. Danny Simpson found the net just after half-time with a low shot; it looked as if Exeter’s time in the competition was over, unless they could find the net.

They didn’t manage it, although Paul Tisdale’s side did manage to rattle the woodwork with Arron Davies and also forced Brian Murphy into a few great saves.

QPR also managed to hit the bar, Shaun Wright-Phillips was introduced by Harry Redknapp and made a great impact, hitting the bar after cutting inside and shooting.

No goals came for South-West side Exeter who now drop out of the competition. Harry Redknapp’s men go into the hat for Thursday’s second round draw.
