Rio Ferdinand's memorable moments - World Team of the Year

Published Add your comment

Rio Ferdinand says being named as one of the best eleven players in the world in 2008 is amongst the most memorable moments of his career.

Ferdinand is celebrating 11 years at Manchester United this Friday with his testimonial against Sevilla at Old Trafford.

A host of first-team regulars, special guests and celebrities are expected to turn out to pay tribute to the former England and West Ham legend on what promises to be a memorable night.

And to mark the special occasion the Red Devils' favourite has hand-picked his top 10 favourite moments from his time in Manchester, exclusively for GiveMeSport.

The 2007/08 season was a memorable for both Ferdinand and Manchester United as the Red Devils scooped the second of three straight Premier League titles.

The 34-year-old even demonstrated his versatility by deputising in goal for the injured Edwin Van der Sar and Thomasz Kuszak, who was sent off for conceding a penalty, during Sir Alex Ferguson's side's FA Cup quarter-final loss against Portsmouth.

Ferdinand's masterful performances in 07/08 earned him a spot on the FIFPro World Team of the Year alongside Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, who was just one season away from becoming the most expensive player on the planet.

"Being named in the FIFA world team in 2008 was a real proud moment, but I think a few more of Manchester United should have been in the team!" he told GiveMeSport.

Stay tuned for the next instalment of Rio's most memorable Manchester United moments - we'll be counting down alongside his official Facebook page as we build towards his testimonial on August 9th.

Tickets for Rio's testimonial can be purchased from ManUtd.com.
