The Miami Heat begin their quest for a third successive NBA championship against the Chicago Bulls on the opening night of the new season.

Heat's title defence gets underway on October 29, with Derrick Rose expected to make his long-awaited return for the Bulls following his ongoing knee troubles.

Later that evening there is an all-Los Angeles affair as the Lakers take on the Clippers. New head coach Doc Rivers will take charge of his first game for the Clippers after joining from the Boston Celtics, while the Lakers will be without Dwight Howard for the first time after he left for the Houston Rockets.

The 2013-2014 schedule, released on Tuesday, also threw up a mouthwatering Christmas Day clash when LeBron James and Kobe Bryant meet in Los Angeles.

Elsewhere the Heat welcome the Spurs on 26 January, as the sides meet for the first time since Miami clinched an absorbing NBA Finals series earlier this year.

The regular season comes to a close on April 16, with the All-Star match scheduled for New Orleans on 16 February.
