Barcelona's Dani Alves insists that teammate Cesc Fabregas can get back to his best this season as long as he stays at the Nou Camp.
Manchester United are reportedly preparing a third bid for the 26-year-old, despite already having two bids rejected by the Catalan club.
However, the club's sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has claimed that United have given up on the former Arsenal captain.
Alves was speaking to Catalan radio station Rac1 and declared that he would be "delighted" if Fabregas chose to stay at the club. The experieced full back was also talking about the transfer of Thiago Alcantara, who joined former boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich earlier this summer.
He was quoted as saying: "I think that Thiago hurried a little, but I like that attitude because the worst thing you can do is remain comfortable,"
However, he said it was wrong to compare Thigao to Fabregas, who left Barcelona to join Arsenal at the age of 16. He stayed with the Gunners for seven seasons and became one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and was also given the captain's armband by Arsene Wenger in 2008.
This is what Alves had to say: "Cesc's is a different case. He has already left here once. He left the club, made a name for himself and then returned. He wasn't at his best at the end of last season but we were all the same.
"Football is a collective sport and you cannot look for scapegoats. If he decides to stay here, I'll be delighted to continue having him as a team-mate. The squad respects him a lot.
"It's up to him what he does, but I think he can bring a lot to this side. The team needs players of Cesc's quality to win trophies."
Cesc Fabregas has been heavily linked with a move to English champions Manchester United and earlier this week, new Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino said that Fabregas "has to decide".
Does this mean that Fabregas could be making a move to Old Trafford this summer? United are in desperate need of a creative midfielder after the retirement of Paul Scholes and many people see Fabregas as the perfect replacement.
David Moyes has recently said there will definitely be new faces at Manchester United, before the transfer window slams shut and Cesc Fabregas may well be one of them.
