Liverpool are ready to beat local rivals Everton to the signing of La Liga full-back Guilherme Siqueira by tabling a £12milllion bid

According to the Express, the Goodison Park club were keen on the Granada defender as a possible Leighton Baines contingency, but that reports in Spain have suggested the Anfield club are now in the driving seat.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly looking to provide left-back Jose Enrique with greater competition this coming season and is ready to splash out as much as £12million for Siqueira.

The 27-year-old Brazilian had un undistinguished career after moving from his native country to Italy as an 18-year-old, but has steadily improved since joining Granada permanently in 2011.

Liverpool have been making a number of signings from Spain this summer, having already captured Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo and Luis Alberto from Sevilla.

The report claims Siqueira has a buyout clause in the region of £21million, so it remains to be seen how successful the Anfield club’s valuation is.

However, they may be forced to dip into the transfer market once again after star man Luis Suarez went public with his desire to leave the club.
