Former Liverpool assistant manager Phil Thompson has questioned why striker Luis Suarez would want to leave Anfield for Premier League rivals Arsenal, and believes if he was to stay at Liverpool, they would easily be able to finish above Arsene Wenger's side.
The Uruguayan has been very open about his desire of quitting Anfield, and has admitted on numerous occasions that he doesn't see his future at the Merseyside club.
During the Confederations Cup, Suarez admitted to missing playing in the Champions League and also said that he wanted to leave England altogether, because he believes his reputation has been damaged beyond repair after his latest saga involving Branislav Ivanovic.
The striker was banned for 10-games after he bit Ivanovic during Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the end of last season, and he was reportedly ready to leave England until Arsenal showed an interest in the striker.
The Gunners have already had two bids rejected for the 26-year-old, but are still confident that they can capture the striker before the deadline ends.
However, Thompson believes if Suarez was to stay at Liverpool, they could easily finish above the Gunners next season and has highlighted the fact that Arsenal aren't even qualified for the Champions League just yet.
"This is Arsenal bidding for him and Arsenal haven't even qualified yet for the Champions League," Thompson told Sky Sports News.
"Who knows what might happen? They haven't even got that yet and he's wanting to go to Arsenal for Champions League football.
"Certainly he's going to get the same media attention and the same difficulties as he's had at Liverpool, so is it going to be any different at Arsenal?
"And if Arsenal don't make another signing, which has been known, before the deadline happens at the start of September then where does that leave Arsenal?
"With Liverpool's signings, they could be challenging Arsenal for a top-four place next year. Why choose Arsenal ahead of Liverpool?"
