Brendan Rodgers looks set to turn his attentions to Granada full-back Guilherme Siqueira after missing out on Benfica starlet Lorenzo Malgarejo.
Liverpool looked set to announce the Benfica ace but work permit trouble caused the Reds to boycott the bid.
Now Rodgers is set to launch an audacious bid to take Siqueira from right under Merseyside rivals Everton' noses.
Roberto Martinez has shown serious interest in Siqueira after speculation surfaced over the future of Leighton Baines at Goodison Park. But Liverpool look set to resurrect their interest in the Brazilian left-sided player.
Siqueira is said to have a £18m buy-out clause in his Granada contract but Rodgers feels he could get his man for around the £12m mark.
Siqueira, 27, started his career in Brazil before making a move to Italy. He had a poor start to his career but earned himself a move to La Liga in 2011 with Granada and really proved himself an established player.
Liverpool have already announced two players from Spanish football this summer, in the shape of Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas and promising young Spaniard Luis Alberto, and Rodgers looks set to make his third La Liga signing.
The Reds will bid around £12m which will put them in the driving seat in the pursuit of the experienced Brazilian.
Liverpool want more competition for starting spots in the squad and Rodgers has singled out the left-back position - and Siqueira may fit the bill.
