Arsenal currently have two central strikers in the form of Olivier Giroud and the young Yaya Sanogo.
Giroud was on and off last season in the Premier League, but demonstrated his importance to the team when he was unavailable to play due to suspension.
Although Giroud was not a prolific goalscorer in his first season for Arsenal, he played a vital role holding up the play and making opportunities for team-mates. Hopefully, in the forthcoming season, Giroud will be able to convert more of the chances he gets created for him or makes for himself.
Sanogo has only played one match for Arsenal, therefore it would be hard to predict how his first season for Arsenal will pan out. It would be great for Arsenal if Sanogo is an instant success but should things go a little wrong for the Frenchman, he is still very young with plenty of room for improvement.
At the moment Arsenal have Gioud and Sanogo as their strikers but are still very strongly linked with Luis Suarez.
This rumoured big-money move will be good for Arsenal and will be one of the "marquee signings" Arsenal fans have been asking for.
Suarez is such a fantastic player and would most likely be a success at Arsenal and score plenty of goals. However, the ongoing dispute between Suarez and Liverpool makes the deal very complicated and the information about the clause in his contract is very limited. Regardless of whether the deal for Suarez is successful, Arsenal should still consider buying another striker.
If Suarez does join Arsenal, he will be unable to play for the first six matches due to the ban he received for biting Branislav Invanovic.
Because of this, Arsenal should get another striker in to provide competition for Giroud in the opening stages of the season. Additionally to this, another striker will be needed if an injury occurs to one or both of the strikers. These potential situations are only if Suarez does join Arsenal.
Even if Suarez does not join Arsenal, this only reiterates Arsenal's need for a striker. Arsenal could suddenly lose Luis Suarez to a bid from Real Madrid and that does not leave many people remaining as lots of clubs have been quick to snap up some of Europe's best strikers.
In this article, five potential strikers who could join Arsenal are examined.
