French international Etienne Capoue is set to join Tottenham Hotspur ahead of La Liga side Atletico Madrid and English Premier League new boys Cardiff City, according to recent reports.

Toulouse midfielder Capoue has been one of the hottest properties in this transfer window even igniting the interest of big money spenders AS Monaco. As the things develops, it is believed that the defensive midfielder is inching closer to a move to White Hart Lane.

Toulouse chairman has confirmed that the player is closer to a move to London, according to reports from Sky Sports.

Tottenham have made some bold signings this summer and have strengthened their side significantly for a possible title challenge and their pursuit of a place in Champions League. Even amidst the long running Gareth Bale saga, which has taken a lot of twists already, Spurs summer captures of Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado makes a clear statement of intent about their ambitions.

But does Etienne Capoue's move make sense? Is it a good deal for Spurs whom are well stocked in midfield?

With the addition of Paulinho to their ranks, centre midfield is an area which looks well balanced at present. The likes of Sandro and Mousa Dembele enjoyed a brilliant spell at the start of the season, and the pair looked formidable to say the least.

Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone are available at White Hart Lane to provide back-up as well as cover. Then there are youngsters Jake Livermore and Tom Carroll, who have already made their break throughs in the Spurs set-up and are looking for more chances. Add the likes of Nabil Bentaleb and other academy prospects who will also be hoping for a shout at the centre of the park.

Do they need another midfielder to occupy the midfield positions? Will Etienne Capoue be a worthy addition to Tottenham Hotspur ranks?

Capoue has played as a defensive midfieder in 4-1-4-1 and 3-5-2 formations for Toulouse last season. His athleticism has helped to form an effective shield which sweeped the danger in front of back four, and is regarded as one of the best in this business in France.

Spurs have Sandro, Parker and Livermore in a defensive capacity in central positions. By taking a closer look you will realize that Parker and Livermore aren't ideally suited to AVB's style of play at Spurs. Can Capoue provide a better option than the duo?

Capoue possess better passing abilities then both and is a powerful player as well. He has also played as a centre back and will be a handy option there in case of an emergency. Even though he is more happy to keep things simple and to keep possession in central role, his range of passing can provide an alternative path as well. It remains to be seen how AVB utilises the Frenchman if he completes his move to North London.

Even though a defensive midfielder isn't the desperate need for Spurs, Capoue can provide a better option for Spurs than Parker and Livermore. His arrival might also mean the end of road for the duo along with Tom Huddlestone. That means an upgrade on the current squad, which is not a bad thing for a top side in Premier League.

Do you think Capoue will be a good addition to the Tottenham midfield? Or will he fail to stand up and deliver to the demands of Premier League?
