Swansea clinched a place in the Europa League play-off round after a 0-0 draw against Malmo in the Swedbank Stadium.
The Welsh side claimed an overall aggregate victory of 4-0, sealing their place in the next round at the expense of the Swedes, who now drop out of the competition altogether.
Manager Michael Laudrap was able to make seven changes after last week’s convincing win, bringing in Jose Canas and Alejandro Pozuelo to make their full debuts.
Yet his team could not replicate last week’s form in which they thrashed Malmo, although did look dominant throughout.
Midfielder Jonathan De Guzman had a shot cleared off of the line and new striker Wilfried Bony was tightly called offside.
Malmo were limited to hardly any chances, Pawel Cibicki, one of three substitutions from Malmo boss Rikard Norling, shot wide of the far post on the first attack from the hosts.
The Swedish side were unable to muster a shot on the Swansea goal throughout the duration of the game. Swansea were limited to just one, although had more shots altogether.
Last season’s prolific striker Michu fired just over the bar and Wayne Routledge scraped the edge of the far post.
Michu had been lucky to escape a red card after he brought down a Malmo defender having already been booked.
He was substituted by Laudrap on 73 minutes, as the Swans looked to conserve the energy of their top scorer last season before the new campaign.
No goals came for either team in a pretty drab affair, and it was Swansea who moved into the draw for the play-off round.
The Welsh club’s next game comes in the Premier League against reigning champions Manchester United on 17th August.
