Stuart Pearce left the England Under-21 set up due to the team's shocking European performance this summer.
The manager's job is still vacant, so first team manager Roy Hodgson has taken the reins temporarily.
Hodgson will be in charge for the under 21's next match against Scotland on Tuesday and has made an impact with his squad selection, having only three players that have made more than 10 appearances at under-21 level.
The eight players who are in the squad for the first time include Watford goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, John Stones of Everton and Manchester United starlet Jesse Lingard.
Of the aforementioned new names included in the squad, I fully expect that Jesse Lingard will be the player people are watching closer than anyone.
Lingard has had a brilliant pre-season at Manchester United and grabbed a lot of people's attention.
His performances have excited and somewhat surprised the majority of football fans.
It's nice to see that his hard work has paid off and got the attention of Hodgson.
Another player that recently impressed the country in front of the Sky cameras was Derby County's creative midfielder Will Hughes.
Hughes has recently been labelled as 'the Championship's latest sensation' and has made two appearances for the under 21's - becoming the second youngest player to do so when he came on against Northern Ireland at the age of 17.
His second appearance came in a match against Sweden on February 5.
Raheem Sterling has been named in the squad, despite thoughts that he was going to be in the first team.
Ross Barkley has also been recalled for his first appearance since 2011 for the under 21's as well as Newcastle's Sammy Ameobi.
For me, these players have been brought in to the U21 squad at the perfect time as they can look to really impress Hodgson.
They have been gifted a chance that not many players receive so they will all be giving an extra 10 per cent in their match against Scotland next week, in order to make their name a memorable one in Hodgson's mind.
