With Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney's future in doubt at Old Trafford, and with Premier League club Chelsea a possible destination for the 27-year-old, here are the top five targets who Manchester United should look into as a possible replacement if the England forward was to depart.

5. Burak Yilmaz (Galatasaray and Turkey)

The Turkish international has been a hotshot in the Champions League last campaign, being the joint top scorer after the group stages with six goals along with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The forward netted 24 league goals in 30 appearances last season in his first year with the Turkish champions, displaying his threat in front of goal.

The striker's wages are not high either, as he approaches his peak at 28 years of age, United will look to pay a decent amount for a talented player with an incredible goal scoring record.

4. Wilfried Zaha (Manchester United and England)

The England international and new United man has already displayed his capabilities in a red shirt during the Red Devil's pre-season tour, with the winger netting a goal and getting himself an assist.

David Moyes has been impressed with the England international, and the 20-year-old is able to also play as a main striker, as he has done under Ian Holloway at Crystal Palace.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid and Portugal)

The saga continues, with Ronaldo's future in doubt, as well as Rooney's, and the Portuguese forward showing no sign of penning a contract extension with Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old could see a move back to Old Trafford, if United are willing to pay big money for him. Madrid haven't shown any signs of letting the forward leave, which could be an issue for David Moyes.

2. Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund and Germany)

Marco Reus has been in incredible form for Borussia Dortmund, over the course of last campaign and during pre-season.

With Mario Gotze already joining rivals Bayern Munich and Robert Lewandowski looking set to head in the same direction next summer, would Dortmund be willing to let go of another star?

The 24-year-old has been a target for a number of top Premier League clubs, with United included. The Reds could be set to pay a similar price for Reus, with the money raised from Rooney's sale.

1. Luis Muriel (Udinese and Columbia)

The dubbed "new Ronaldo" was an exciting prospect in Serie A during the 2012/13 campaign, after returning from a loan spell at Lecce the season before last.

The 22-year-old has a lot of potential in him and could still do with a lot of improvements, but at a young age, United could be set to pay a high price for the forward.

We have witnessed the likes of David de Gea, who United have changed into one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and probably in the world, in the space of two years.

Muriel could be set to take a massive leap in his career, having the chance to shine under David Moyes and potentially in the Champions League.
