Gervinho joins AS Roma from Arsenal

Gervinho has ended his disappointing spell at Arsenal by completing a transfer to Italian side Roma.

The 26-year-old found himself sitting on the bench for most of his time with the Gunners, with Arsene Wenger usually preferring Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberland.

His career at Arsenal had the worst possible start, getting sent off on his Premier League debut against Newcastle for lashing out at former Premier League bad boy Joey Barton - and things did not improve from there, as he was consistently sidelined for the London based side.

The Ivory Coast international failed to find form in England, scoring 11 goals in 63 appearances. Gervinho will be hoping he can make an impact in the Italian league for Roma, who paid £8m for the winger, after Arsenal bought him for £10.8m from French side Lille.

Roma have had a productive transfer window, signing Dutch star Kevin Strootman, centre-backs Mehdi Beniata and Tin Jedvaj just to name a few.

The Italian giants have spent around £48m on new faces so far this transfer window.

Arsenal are still looking to make a major transfer this summer, but Wenger has said he is still working on bringing big names to the club.
