Wrestling legend Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts could return to the WWE at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January.
Roberts, who last appeared in the WWE in 1997 has suffered with addiction to alcohol and drugs for many years, preventing any WWE return, however he is now hopeful he can return to the company for one night only in the Royal Rumble.
Roberts appeared for TNA in 2006 when he was the special guest referee during the Monsters Ball match at Bound For Glory. In the weeks before Bound For Glory Roberts appeared on Impact to promote the match. His promos at this time were often incoherent and Roberts once collapsed on his back and struggled to get up during a promo on Impact.
These appearances showed just how far the creator of the DDT had fallen due to his addictions and ruined Roberts’ name, with the majority of wrestling promotions unwilling to sign him for appearances.
In 2012 Roberts weighed over 300 pounds and could not even walk without being out of breath. Roberts moved in with former wrestler Diamond Dallas Page. Page stated that the reason Roberts had moved in with him was to get Roberts back into shape and off the alcohol.
Now Roberts is in great shape for a 60-year-old man and has quit the alcohol. Roberts is pushing for the WWE to give him a spot in the 2014 Royal Rumble, in what he says would complete his final comeback.
At this moment the WWE has not spoken with Roberts and are unlikely to before January, as he will likely be a last minute surprise entrant to the Rumble.
