Manchester United will reportedly resist the interest of Roma in their Portuguese winger Luis Nani, unless the Serie A club are able to offer a significant sum before the transfer deadline next month.

Roma have been credited with interest in Nani for a number of months with his standing at Old Trafford unclear but, reports, the Premier League champions have no burning desire to sell the player.

Rudi Garcia, manager of Roma, has identified Nani as a potential acquisition ahead of the new season - with the Portuguese also attracting interest from Monaco - although Manchester United are not prepared to let him leave on the cheap.

Although the arrival of Wilfried Zaha has raised further questions about Nani's long-term future with Manchester United, David Moyes is reported to consider the former Sporting player among his first-team plans.

Nani will, however, have to contest Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia - along with Zaha - for a regular starting berth under the new manager, and may entertain the prospect of ending his association with Manchester United.

There is no guarantee, though, that the 26-year-old would be able to gain the first-team football he craves in Rome, with the Italian capital club also boasting Erik Lamela, Francesco Totti and Gervinho among their number.

Nani has made 212 appearances for Manchester United since joining the club from Sporting six years ago, during which time he has scored 40 goals for the Red Devils champions.
